Whistling, A Skill or Just Annoying

by admin on Apr.11, 2009, under Could do With Less of, Makes Me Happy

Wikipedia defines whistling as:

“the production of sound by means of expelling, and sometimes inhaling, a stream of air through the mouth. The air is moderated by the tongue, lips, teeth, or fingers to create turbulence, and the mouth acts as a resonant chamber to enhance the resulting sound”

When a tune is whistled in harmony to the sound of a beat or the whistler is just making melodies, the sound being produced can be quite joy to hear. The point at where it all goes wrong is where tone deaf people try to carry a note along to their favourite tune.

The reason why I have brought this up today is because I was at the gym and there is always someone whistling along to the tune which is playing over the background. You know how your voice sounds different when its played back to you, well I think the same must rules apply for whistling.

This post is not to just moan about people who can’t whistle, here is an example of air resonanating passing though a sculpture.
